The Next Premier League Star

The Premier League has seen countless stars come through the league over the course of their history. Some of the most well-known include Raheem Sterling, and Gareth Bale; while a few have made their talents known in the past year, including Mason Greenwood, Phil Foden, and Bukayo Saka. Who will be the next Premier League talent to take over and dominate? Here at Beer Belly Soccer, we’ll be going over some of the candidates.

Anthony Gordon

One of the first people to come to mind in terms of future stars is Anthony Gordon of Everton. Gordon was not a known player in the Premier League until the tail end of the 2019-20 season where he was able to make his debut. After joining up with the Everton as an 11 year old, Gordon had been spending most of his career up until this point playing for the Everton and England youth teams. But looking for a spark, he was handed his debut in January 2020 and went on the make 11 Premier League appearances to close out the season for Everton. So far this year he has not made any Premier League appearances but has gotten 3 assist in his 2 Carabao Cup performances. This may be considered a bit of a stretch but being only 19 years of age, Gordon seems like one who could have a very important future in the Premier League.

Aaron Ramsdale

It’s not often that a goalkeeper is mentioned on a list of potential stars but Ramsdale’s inclusion is a testament to how impressive he was last year at a young age. While playing for a turbulent side in Bournemouth, Ramsdale was able to establish himself as the first choice goalkeeper from opening day all the way through until the end of the season. Over the course of the season he was consistently Bournemouth’s best player and put in great performances even in defeat. By season’s end he was named the club’s player of the season. Now with Sheffield, Ramsdale has the opportunity to establish himself as a top Premier League goalie at only 22 years of age. Keep in mind, most goalies tend to be late bloomers and oftentimes won’t put forth their best performances until their mid-to-late 20’s. Ramsdale has all the potential to be a star.

Reece James

One of the more widely known players to crack this list, Reece James seems to be right on the cusp of stardom. Still just 20 years of age, he seems to have made the right back position for Chelsea his own and continues to put forth impressive performances. James made his debut for Chelsea in 2019, and hasn’t looked back since. In total he has made 28 Premier League appearances, and even became Chelsea’s youngest ever Champions League scorer. James seems to be the most likely candidate to follow in Trent Alexander-Arnold’s path from right back of the future to star.

Ki-Jana Hoever

Ki-Jana Hoever has made his name as a member of the Liverpool squad who seemed like a sure bet to break into the first team. But after making a few appearances as a substitute and off the bench, he was surprisingly moved to Wolves during the transfer window. This could be a huge move for both Wolves and the player. At just 18 years of age Hoever seems much more likely to be able to break into Wolves team, especially with his ability to play across the back line. With hopefully a few more chances to get first team game time, Ki-Jana Hoever looks like a future star on the rise.
